Color Mag: Fahrenheit's Sentimental Side

Tuesday October 14, 2008 Taiwan

Translated by aiwa @ FahrenheitGloba1

Color Mag: Fahrenheit's Sentimental Side

Usually, we often see the bright and cheerful side of Fahrenheit, do you want to know their most sentimental inner feelings? Come over here!

teacher tell us to be honest? But after I grew up, I realize there's too much "points and details" to worry about when interacting with people in society, have to adjust to many things; or from another perspective, there's nothing bad about it, people must know how to protect themselves, only my inner self and heart would remain just and honest, never losing my own principle, then it's good enough.

Calvin Chen - The true respect between people

Actually, I've always believe that there should be loving mutuality between people, especially within this current era filled with anger, shouldn't everyone care more about this world? During the days in Canada, the severe racism has made me feel angry and upset, why is there such hatred between people who are not familiar with each other? Just because of the race, culture, lifestyle difference? I truely hope humans could someday form the true world peace, loving the entire environment on earth, caring about all the living species on earth; perhaps there would still be a lot of discrimination between races, but I just hope that everyone could be more tolerant and have an open heart, respect for each other, cherish each other, then world peace could be achieved, the hope starts from you and me!

Fahrenheit rising!

Wed, September 03 2008

By Lucy-Claire Saunders

You might have thought the boy band era was over. Well clearly, it’s not.
Meet Fahrenheit. After being together for just a few short years, the four-member group from Taiwan has made its mark as Asia’s biggest heartthrob act, selling millions of records and even becoming spokespersons for the island nation.
Having conquered much of Asia, Wu Chun, Jiro Wang, Calvin Chen and Aaron Yan now have their sights set on North America.
Last week, Fahrenheit sent two of its performers to guest star in the tenth anniversary of Sunshine Nation Finale — an annual star search conducted throughout Metro Vancouver by Fairchild Media.
Apparently, two members is all it takes to generate the required amount of hype. Within one hour of going on sale, tickets for last Friday’s concert were completely sold out.
The group’s representative duo, Calvin Chen, who won the Sunshine Nation competition in 2004, and Aaron Yan, easily managed to sell out the Michael J. Fox Centre in Burnaby.
Not bad for a boy group with three out of four of its members aged 28 - virtual geriatrics in today’s youth-obsessed music industry.
No matter. They still attract fans half their age. Fainting, screaming and blowing kisses, Vancouver’s Asian-Canadian teenyboppers scrambled to get a glimpse of the two stars before they pushed their way into the Fairchild studio for a radio interview.
With two albums that continue to top charts, the group has sold millions of copies and continues to sell out concerts across Asia. Their debut, self-titled album, sold 80,000 copies within the first month of its release in 2006.
Chen, who is the latest member to join the group after having been discovered on the Sunshine Nation search in 2004, was earning his Masters in Economics at the University of Victoria when a Taiwan record label asked him to visit their headquarters based on his performance in the talent search.
But his father, Chen explained, did not support his dreams for fame and demanded that he stay in school. Determined to explore the possibility of a singing career, Calvin, 28, secretly hopped on a plane to Taiwan to meet with executives from the record label.
So much for a career in stocks and market shares.
Sitting next to Yan the day before the concert, Chen marveled at how far he has come since winning the competition four years ago. To be able to preform as a Fahrenheit member at the very talent search finale that made him a star seemed unreal, he laughed.
“It feels really good to be back. Vancouver has changed a lot since I was here last, especially Richmond and Robson Street,” he told the Asian Pacific Post, referring to the bustling suburb and Vancouver’s trendiest shopping neighborhood.
As the latest and greatest pop culture export from Taiwan, Fahrenheit has replaced F4 (also a four-boy band) as spokespersons for the country’s tourism industry in a bid to boost the number of tourists visiting Taiwan this year by seven per cent.
“Since F4 has proved quite effective in attracting young people to visit Taiwan, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau is continuing its strategy of using a ‘heartthrob’ band to present a vibrant and dynamic image of Taiwan,” Brian Su, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office press division director in Vancouver told the Asian Pacific Post.
“Fahrenheit will help attract young fans between the age of 18 and 30 to visit Taiwan as part of their fan-club activities. It’s been known that a lot of fans from abroad went to Taiwan to meet with the members of the band. While these fans stayed in Taiwan, a bit of sightseeing or shopping would generate tourism dollars.”
So far, it seems the strategy is working. Taiwan’s tourism increased by $36.6 million in 2007 alone. The number of tourists from Japan and South Korea also increased 15 per cent the same year, added Su.
According to the Tourism Bureau, Fahrenheit will shoot television commercials, appear on special travel episodes of Japanese television programs and hold fan gatherings both at home and abroad.
While Chen and Yan insist that Fahrenheit did not intentionally dethrone F4 as Taiwan’s top boys, the two bands are often compared to each other with whole chat rooms dedicated to debates on who deserves the title as Taiwan’s most talented sweethearts.
Modesty aside, the members of Fahrenheit have been able to market themselves as singers, actors and models. They are extremely popular around Asia for their roles in Taiwanese dramas such as KO One, Romantic Princess, Hana Kimi and Tokyo Juliet.
Their pretty faces have also made them prime targets for a range of products from vanilla chapstick to Hong Kong’s Disney Land.
But they still haven’t learned to write their own songs, Chen admits, which is not unusual for today’s pop stars. Malaysian born songwriter, Chen Xin Yan pens most of their songs as, “he know all four of our personalities so well.”
Each member of the group represents a season and temperature symbolic of his personality. Yan is winter at 41 degrees, Zun is autumn at 59 degrees, Chen is spring at 77 degrees, and Wang is summer at 95 degrees.
It is unclear how they chose those specific temperatures, but Fahrenheit has successfully turned itself into one hot commodity.

Fahrenheit talks about which female star they "fantasize" about most

Friday August 15, 2008 Taiwan

source: sina.com
translated by: x-WISHFULthinking@asianfanatics.net

Fahrenheit is currently preparing for their concert that will be held in Hong Kong in September this year. The theme for this concert is "Fantasy." When asked about who do they most “fantasize” about, it was revealed that both Chun and Jiro have a thing for Hong Kong female singers.

When Fahrenheit first announced that they were going to hold a concert this year, the 4 were deciding whether to reveal their body at the concert, to bring excitement to the Hong Kong fans. Aaron smiled and said that "Fantasy" means that whether it is on appearance or feeling that is portrayed, they will bring a very different Fahrenheit onto the stage.

In the past, Fahrenheit have separately filmed many idol dramas and movies, sparking a lot of rumors with various female stars. Earlier, when they were in Hong Kong for promotions, they were asked who do they most "fantasize" about. Chun thought for a long time before saying Vivian Chow. He said, "The first concert I ever went to was Vivian's concert in Singapore. At the time, I also rode in the elevator lift with her and then after that, I began to notice her more. I even have her idol card." Jiro said that he likes Kelly Chen’s voice, and that when he found out she was getting married, he had offered her his congratulations. And as for Aaron, initially he had a crush on Rainie Yang, but now he says that he has grown up and finds Angelina Jolie very attractive.

Fahrenheit has been busy with their solo careers in the past, Aaron smiled and said he is very happy that Fahrenheit can finally hold a concert together, to prove their singing skills. They hope that everyone will give them their support. Chun said, "This time there is a lot of pressure, we know that our management company has put in a lot of money for this concert so we must try our best to do a good job!"

Countdown to S.H.E and Fahrenheit concert starts now, seven big young stars compete

Wednesday August 19, 2008 Taiwan

30 September, S.H.E and Fahrenheit will be starting their series of concert ‘I decide my dreams’ in Mainland China. In the next one month following that they will hold concerts in Huhhot, Hangzhou, Taiyuan, Fuzhou, Jinan and Shenzhen. Meng Niu who is the organizer for this concert may invest RMB$10,000,000 to create the grand concert. At the same time seven mysterious guests will be appearing on this stage.

As the current most popular female group, S.H.E has released 10 albums in the 6 years of their debut and had two full house world tour concerts in 2004 and 2006. Fahrenheit is also currently the most popular Taiwan group in China, for trillion of Fahrenheit fans this concert is a dream come true for them as they had been wanting to see their idol hold a big scale concert in China.

As both groups are the in-house artiste of HIM, Fahrenheit and S.H.E had many chance to work together on their music and drama. However this is the first time holding a concert together in China. Hence, S.H.E and Fahrenheit had been preparing intensively recently for the concert. Fahrenheit also has intentions of inviting S.H.E to be their guest for their September concert in Hong Kong to be a practice.

And S.H.E recently have been busy recording for their new album, hopefully they can show their new songs on the concert this time.

Another issue that is grabbing attention is the seven mysterious guests who will be performing on the same stage as S.H.E and Fahrenheit. However the organizer did not reveal to us any news about these mysterious guests. We knew from an undertaking side of the concert that these mysterious guests will be new faces. And it could also be two groups made up of 4 guys and 3 girls. There is also a possibility that they are backup HIM have to substitute S.H.E and Fahrenheit in future.

From known, the organizer had put in a lot of efforts for these seven newcomers. There are sources saying that nearly half of the RMB$10,000,000 had been used for the seven newcomers packaging.

In this one month of the concert, Zhang Ya Dong, Ding Wei, Xie Na, Liu Ye, Chun Xiao and other ten celebrities of different fields will be training and directing these seven newcomers on performance, body language, singing skills etc, besides so there will also be professional stylists to design clothes and style for the seven newcomers.

And on the concert, they had also been arranged to perform, their performance time is almost similar to S.H.E and Fahrenheit. They might even perform the hits of S.H.E and Fahrenheit to have a live PK with the seven idols.

As for who these seven mysterious guests are and how they are going to appear on the stage of the concert, what kind of interaction will they have with S.H.E and Fahrenheit, will they steal the limelight of the ‘Seven Big Stars’, we will continue to give everyone the attention in further reports.

Fahrenheit and S.H.E filming Xin Wo MV

Friday December 14, 2007 Taiwan

Fahrenheit SHE (大被同眠 what's this?)

Fahrenheit and senior, SHE cooperated together on their new song, Xin Wo MV, and played widely on the matching game. Ella of course is paired back with her rumoured boyfriend, Wu Zun, and she said humourously, "Wu Zun have already loved Angela for too long, he should come back already." Apart from this, Jiro is paired up with Selina, and Calvin is paired up with Hebe. Everyone also participated in a sweet dance. As for which pairing has the most chemistry? Of course Wu Zun and Ella has the most chemistry.

At the same time, the 7 of them also squeezed on a big bed, and acted on the bed. (脇上戲? What's this?) Among them, Selina was the funniest of them all.

FRH filmed Xin Wo MV with SHE, everyone "nestled" together, and even paired to dance the waltz. In the end, Wu Zun and Ella this "previously rumoured couple" were acknowledged to have the most chemistry in dance.

In the new MV FRH and SHE to present the "nest" effect, wore pyjamas together, hugging pillows in deep sleep. Selina and Jiro, Ella and Wu Zun, Hebe and Calvin were all paired to dance, Arron because of leg injury could only remain at the side with the dry pleasure of hitting the triangle to provide accompaniment.

Fahrenheit attends Arron's birthday bash

Saturday November 17, 2007 Taiwan

on arron's right is his mother and younger sister

Arron's 22nd Birthday Bash

Yesterday, Arron and his fans celebrated his 22nd Birthday, Wuzun and Calvin also attended. Interestingly, with Arron's mother suprise appearance, the first thing she said on stage was "I get to meet WuZun, I'm so happy".

Nov 20th is Arron's 22nd Birthday but his fans celebrated it for him on the 16th. Wuzun, Calvin and Li Ang Lin came to present him his presents. Jiro who is busy with filming was unable to attend but had already gave Arron a big hug.

WuZun was the emcee for Arron's birthday bash, on stage, he teased Arron and wanted to allow the fans to kiss him. Fahrenheit gave Arron a pair of sunglasses as a birthday present as Arron loves to look handsome. Also, as Arron loves singing and everywhere he goes, he also sings, his company gave him a professional mic worth 80000taibi.

The suprise guests were Arron's mother and sister, when Arron's mother appeared, he was so happy that his eyes turned red. Suprisingly, when Arron's mother went on the stage, the first thing she said was "Firstly, i get to meet WuZun, I'm so happy" before continuing with " everytime WuZun comes to our house, i will always give him a hug."

Arron then followed, "Mum, dont say anymore, i'm afraid if you continue, you will not be able to leave this place." He also said that everytime at home when he's acting 'shuai' to the mirror, his mother would always say "Act cool also cannot be cooler than Wang Dong Cheng(Jiro)." Although Arron's mother always seem to be speaking good of other people, she also gave her son a huge red packet.

Taiwanese Drama Enthralls Korean Viewers

Thursday November 15, 2007 Korea

The latest craze on Korean TV, besides the gorgeously coiffed Bae Yong-joon and the retro snarls of CSI, is Taiwanese drama. The first time a soap from Formosa made bubbles here was in the summer of 2002, when “Meteor Garden” aired on MBC Drama Net. And now, Taiwanese drama is back.

“It Started with a Kiss” on SBS Drama Plus started the buzz, and “Hanazakarino Kimitachihe,” despite being something of a mouthful, is also hugely popular. They may only get viewer ratings of 2 percent, but that is relatively high among foreign dramas, and many fans say the actual popularity is far greater since most fans watch them on the Internet and DVD. In Taiwan, “Hanazakari no Kimitachihe” had the island’s highest ever audience rating.

The driving force of the Taiwanese soap opera craze is online fan clubs. The one dedicated to Jerry Yen, the star of “Meteor Garden,” has no fewer than 30,000 registered fans. The fan club of pop group Feilunhai (Fahrenheit) is also enormous, and Feilunhai members Wu Chun and Jiro Wang play leading roles in “Hanazakari no Kimitachi he.” Kim Mi-na, the fan club’s leader, said, “The number of active fans who translate articles about Taiwanese actors and visit Taiwan to see them amounts to 7,300. Including registered fans, the figure far exceeds 10,000.”

One reason why Koreans love Taiwanese drama is that most of it -- and all three series mentioned here -- is based on Japanese comics that are hugely popular, adding the extra thrill of comparing the soap with the original. Due to their popularity among devoted fans, Korean cable and satellite TV channels are introducing more and more Taiwanese dramas. Lee Eun-kyeong, a PR woman for the Korean branch of Taiwan’s GTV, says while only a single Taiwanese drama was imported to Korea in 2006, there are five this year. And now, Korean broadcasters are snapping up the dramas even before they started shooting.

Calvin's Birthday; Chun Initiates Kiss

Friday November 9, 2007 Taiwan

The day before, Calvin celebrated his birthday with his fans. Fahrenheit members, Chun and Arron, suddenly showed up, surprising Calvin. Fans began to cheer for Chun to kiss Calvin. Both were shocked for a little while, before Chun suddenly "kissed" him, causing fans to cheer loudly. (T/N: NO, they did NOT actually kiss. They just moved their heads to the side slightly so it LOOKED like they were kissing from the side angle.)

Chun gave a branded luggage bag as a present, and their manager give him a PDA (筆記型電腦). Calvin said, "The stocks suddenly drop was driving me nuts, but now recieving the computer has made me very happy." The other day, Calvin was tricked (referring to the news about Angela pretending to cry) while in Indonesia causing him to be paranoid. Even when his company told him to audition for the advertising company he thought it was fake!

"Boys, it was hot!"

Straits Times Spore

"Taiwanese singer Evan Yo, 20, summed it all up nicely at the reception after the Singapore Hit Awards on Saturday Night.

He has been named one of four Best Newcomers but when asked how he was feeling after the ceremony, he said: "I wish I'm part of Fahrenheit now."

The Taiwanese boyband were the hottest stars at the awards ceremony, organised by MediaCorp Radio's Y.E.S. 93.3FM. It honours the best and most popular in the Mandarin pop music scene each year.

At the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the quartet - Calvin Chen, 26; Jiro Wang, 26; Wu Chun, 27; and Aaron Yan, 20 - took home four trophies, including Most Popular Newcomer and Most Acclaimed Artiste Of The Year. Their song Love's Here (Ai Dao) clinched the Courts Best Music Video and one of the Top Ten Pick Of The Pop awards.

The 4,500-strong audience, mostly women, screamed their lungs out each time the foursome appeared on stage. Even Singapore songbird Stefanie Sun, 29, could not resist quipping on stage: "I'm feeling a little woozy because of a slight flu and because there are so many handsome guys here."

She added as she winked to the crowd: "I'm sitting next to Wu Chun."

Speaking to the media after the 3 and a half hour-long ceremony, Fahrenheit, which was formed in late 2005, were humble about their popularity.

But when i asked them who will they be going with, they took a glance at their assistant, look as though they don't dare to say." When asked if she hopes to collaborate with Fahrenheit, Joey smiled but did not answer. However, her managered revealed that Wu Zun will be working with Charlene for a movie. The night before the opening, there was a bomb hoax, but Joey said she did not know about it.

Fahrenheit worries about Singapore fans

Sunday October 28, 2007 Singapore

FAHRENHEIT WORRIES ABOUT FANS. DO NOT HOPE TO SEE THEM QUEUE OVERNIGHT AGAIN.
28th October 2007

Currently at the Mediacorp studios, fans who have queued overnight to get the special tickets to the hit awards, finally got the chance to see Fahrenheit, &have interaction with them.

The sponsors YES933, having limited the number of tickets to 50 was very reasonable, as the VIP room could only hold that much people. the place was very orderly, the fans were very cooperative, no pushing &even queued orderly to have their pictures taken with the beloved Fahrenheit.

The Ge Mi Hui[Fans session] is held after the hit awards, which started at around 12.30am. but the fans all look so energetic, &played games with Fahrenheit, having a great time with them. Amongst these fans, some are only 15, &some who are of other race, not knowing chinese, but still in love with Fahrenheit.

There is a Phillipino 16year old girl, she said that she had liked Fahrenheit for a year, &for the special tickets, she stayed at Mediacorp Studio for 4nights. but not knowing chinese, how did she like them? "I do not know why, but i would melt whenever i see them."

&there are 10fans, who do not need to queue, one of them said that they got it from the fan club. they wore Fahrenheit's special blue tee, &interacted with them.

the reporters asked Fahrenheit if they knew that some of the fans queued for 4nights just to get the tickets, they were clueless. But after knowing it, they showed care &concern, &persuaded the fans not to do it anymore.

Jiro says, "Actually i am really happy to see all of them as we do not come to Singapore frequently, but knowing that they didn't go home, this would make their parents worry, &we are all worried about their safety. so we hope that next time they would not repeat this again as we would be really worried.

But luckily, this time's activity gave Fahrenheit a good impression.

summary by Jerry's Kingdom

When Taiwan Film and TV Festival held its "Top 10 Taiwan Idols Poll Voting", rumors went that on October 22, fans who voted for their choices literally "moved their hands and feet" to produce votes. In just 3 days, 5566 member Sam Wang climbed up to Number 1 with 127,000 votes. Tony Sun and Wang Ru Feng also broke into the Top 10 list. As lead comers F4 and Fahrenheit fans fired their votes on-line, and CTS found out later that the earlier group of fans are "Poll Voting hacker fans" and changed the rules yesterday noon. As a result, Jerry Yan re-enters as the Top 1.

The poll voting for "Top 10 Taiwan Idols" just started last Friday and directed fans to vote at it's website at www.ttff.com.tw/idol/10idol.htm . Yesterday morning, Sam Wang and Jiro Wang both exceeded the 120,000 vote mark to land in the Rank 1 and Rank 2 places. This has lowered Jerry Yan's 80.000 votes to Rank 3 but in the afternoon, it dramatically climbed up as Top 1 and the Top 2 changed to "The Hospital" stars Jerry Yan and Janine Zhang. Sam Wang's high votes dropped to 80,000 votes and landed as Rank 3 while ex-Top 2 placer Jiro Wang's more than 100,000 votes was re-accounted and then landed to Rank 7.

Surprisingly, Mike He did not reach the top 10 list, loosing to Bang Bang Tang. Super famous Chun Wu only managed to get Rank 10, where he lost to others like Jimmy Lin, Tony Sun and Jiro Wang.

CTS indicated yesterday that they discovered that there were fans in the website who hacked their IDs to multiply their votes. As this voting was only limited to the Taiwanese, they clutch in as the "Poll Voting Hacker fans" group. leading CTS to change the rules for the voting, and bringing down the Top 1 Sam Wang to fall in the raking.

Fahrenheit is fast gaining the attention of pop masses

Tuesday October 9,2007 Malaysia

Soaring popularity

By SETO KIT YAN

Taiwanese boyband Fahrenheit is fast gaining the attention of pop masses here.

Hot stuff: Fahrenheit comprises (from left) Calvin Chen, Jiro Wang, Wu Chun and Aaron Yan (not pictured).

Fahrenheit celebrated the mid-autumn festival for the first time in Malaysia. The Taiwanese boy band comprises Wu Zun, 27, Jiro Wang Dong-cheng, 26, Calvin Chen Yi-ru, 27, and Aaron Yan Ya-lun, 21.

It was Wang and Chen’s first visit to Malaysia. Brunei-born Wu played host and introduced them to local delicacies (satay, char kway teow, bak kut teh, and nasi lemak, among others).

Yan was conspicuously missing in action due to a worsening knee injury that has kept him wheelchair-bound. He had to undergo surgery on a torn ligament, sustained while filming a dance session for a music video. He was hospitalised for more than three weeks after aggravating an old basketball injury.

Despite missing its youngest band-mate and rumours of the group disbanding, Fahrenheit remained a playful unit at a recent press conference in Kuala Lumpur, during which romantic liaisons were the hot topic.

Presently, Wu stars in Romantic Princess (Gong Zhu Xiao Mei), a Taiwanese serial adapted from the Japanese manga, Romance Godan Katsuyou, by Kazuko Fujita. The buff actor-singer plays the male lead opposite Angela Chang Shao Han and has several kissing scenes with the pretty actress-singer. The series is currently airing on Taiwanese TV stations CTV & GTV, and the two are often seen together at promotional activities.

Wu was quizzed on his rumoured relationship with Chang but he laughed it off. Cheekily deflecting the questions, Wu gestured at Chen instead and hinted at the latter’s rumoured relationship with Genie Zhuo Wen Xuan. Both also star in Romantic Princess, with Chen playing the second lead; he even had a bedroom scene with Chang.

Chen, the tallest in the band at 1.84m, has taken to hosting. “Given an opportunity, I’d like to try different things. Look at groups like SMAP (popular Japanese boyband). Doesn't each member has his own speciality? Similarly, Fahrenheit members, too, can each approach his art from different directions.”

Fahrenheit’s soaring popularity in Japan has prompted it to make its Japanese debut in November. The boys are expected to release Fahrenheit First, which includes a Japanese version of their first hit, Wo You Wo De Young (I Have My Youth).

Wang revealed: “We’ve recorded our single and will include some of our other songs.”

Scheduled to release its second Mandarin album, Wo Men De (Ours), in December, Fahrenheit will reportedly stage its debut concert at Hong Kong’s Coliseum in 2008.

Meanwhile, the guys have been holding mini-concerts since early this year – one in Medan, Sumatra, and another in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.

Last year, Fahrenheit won bronze for the best group at Hong Kong’s TVB8 Awards. It was the first new foreign boy band to do so, beating other Hong Kong boy bands vying for the title. The gold and silver went to Taiwan’s S.H.E and Hong Kong’s Twins, respectively, both top all-girl acts in the region. Early this year, Fahrenheit was named the best male group at the HITO Music Awards 2007, held in Taiwan.

With Fahrenheit being so popular in Hong Kong, will it be singing in Cantonese soon?

“We’ve sung in Japanese, so why not Cantonese? It’s not so difficult,” piped Chen. Wang followed with, “Yeah! When we’re at the KTV (karaoke), we sing Cantonese songs, too.”

Wang and Chen admitted to understanding some but speaking very little Cantonese. Then Brunei-born Wu, whose Cantonese is easily the best, pointed out, “There’s a slight difference between Hong Kong Cantonese and the Cantonese spoken here (Malaysia). People can tell when we speak.”

Ever popular Wu, whose real name is Goh Kiat Chun, is reportedly making his foray into the Hong Kong movie industry. The dashing pop idol is said to be starring in Hong Kong director Jingle Ma’s new movie, which is a twist on the classic Chinese romance, Liang Zhu (Liang and Zhu are star-crossed lovers who die and turn into butterflies).

Wu is reported to be playing the lead, Liang Shan Bo, opposite award-winning Hong Kong actress Charlene Choi’s Zhu Ying Tai. Filming is expected to begin late this month, but Wu declined to elaborate as nothing has yet been confirmed. “I’m really looking forward to filming a movie. It is a dream come true for me.”

Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Chow is also said to be eyeing Wu for a part in his new project, Gong Fu Chuan Ren (Descendant of Kung Fu). It is said to be a TV drama modelled after his blockbuster movie, Kungfu Hustle. Pressed to divulge details, Wu simply replied, “We just met up, there’s nothing in the works.”

Among the prettiest of boy bands in Taiwan, Fahrenheit reportedly earns NT$25mil (RM2.6mil) a year. However, rumours abound of them disbanding after a supposed falling out between Wu and Wang. Both of them vehemently denied the rumours and surprised the media by simulating a passionate kissing scene.

Then, looking serious, Wang clarified, “When we filmed Zhong Ji Yi Jia (The X-Family), the promotions couldn’t compare with those of Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu (Hanazakarino Kimitachihe), hence prompting such a response from the media.”

Wang was the protagonist in The X-Family, while Wu played the male lead in Hanazakarino Kimitachihe (Hana Kimi). Wu’s splendid chemistry with tomboyish Ella Chen (from Taiwanese group S.H.E), who played the cross-dressing female lead, led the media to portray them as a couple, further boosting their popularity.

The viewership ratings for Hana Kimi was so high that television stations in Japan and South Korea clamoured for broadcasting rights. Hana Kimi was even nominated for best juvenile drama at the 2007 Seoul International Drama Awards. Wu and Wang reported a joyful trip to South Korea, although they did not win anything. “It was a great honour and a huge encouragement for us to be at an event with so many established Korean film and television artistes in attendance.”

To date, Wu has starred in three manga-based Taiwanese serials (Tokyo Juliet, Hana Kimi and Romantic Princess) and guest-starred in another three (KO One, It Started With a Kiss and The X-Family).

But, what people don’t know is the amount of effort Wu has to put in while preparing for shoots because he doesn’t read Chinese very well. “I still use some pin yin (or Romanised Chinese) scripts because there are many words I don’t know. But my Chinese has definitely improved.”

At the media’s urging, all three gave impromptu performances.

Then they were quickly whisked off to perform at the Perfect Mid-Autumn Concert Charity Show 2007, in Bukit Jalil, where they shared the stage with artistes from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia.
